Privacy Policy

The short version

Crypto Illinois is a static informational website. There are no user accounts, no registration, no contact forms, no newsletter signup, no comment system and no e-commerce. We never handle money, and we never hold, transmit or have access to anyone's digital assets.

As a result, the amount of personal information this site processes is very small — essentially the technical data any web server records, plus any email you choose to send us.

A security note that belongs on this page

We will never contact you first, and we will never ask you for a payment, a wallet address, a private key, a recovery phrase or remote access to your device. If someone approaches you claiming to represent Crypto Illinois and requests any of those, it is fraud. Report it to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov.

What we process, and why

Server logsOur hosting provider records standard technical data — IP address, browser and device type, referring page, pages requested, timestamps. Used to keep the site running, diagnose faults and detect abuse. Retained only as long as needed for those purposes.

Email correspondenceIf you email contact@crypto-illinois.com, we hold your message and address in order to reply and, where relevant, to act on a correction. We do not add correspondents to any list.

AnalyticsWe may use a privacy-respecting analytics service to understand which pages are read. Where used, it processes aggregate technical data — page views, approximate geography, device category — and is not used to build individual profiles.

What we never collectNames, addresses, phone numbers, payment details, financial account information, wallet addresses, private keys or recovery phrases. There is no mechanism on this site to submit any of them.

We do not sell, rent, trade or share personal information. We have no consumer database, and we do not operate any advertising network that profiles visitors.

Outbound and partner links

This site links to exchanges, kiosk operators, gift card marketplaces, government registers and reference sources. When you click an outbound link you leave this site and the destination's own privacy policy applies. We have no control over how third parties collect or use data.

Commercial links. Some outbound links are partnerships that may earn us a commission at no additional cost to you, and may carry a referral parameter identifying traffic as originating here. That parameter identifies the source of the visit, not you personally. We receive aggregate reporting — counts of referrals and conversions — rather than individual identities, account details or transaction data.

Government and reference links. Links to NMLS Consumer Access, FinCEN, IDFPR, the FBI's IC3 and the Illinois Attorney General are provided as references and carry no commercial relationship.

Cookies and analytics

This site does not set advertising or tracking cookies, and does not operate cross-site behavioural advertising.

Where an analytics service is used, it may set a first-party cookie or use a cookieless measurement method to distinguish page views. Any such use is for aggregate readership understanding only.

Fonts. This site loads web fonts from a third-party font service. Doing so causes your browser to make a request to that service, which will receive your IP address and browser information as a technical consequence of delivering the font files.

Your browser controls. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Doing so will not affect your ability to read anything on this site, because nothing here depends on them. Most browsers also support a Global Privacy Control signal, which we honour where the underlying services support it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict processing of personal information, and to opt out of its sale or sharing.

In practice, exercising those rights against this site is straightforward because there is so little to exercise them over: we do not sell or share personal information, and we hold no consumer records beyond email correspondence and server logs.

If you have emailed us and would like that correspondence deleted, write to contact@crypto-illinois.com and we will remove it.

Illinois residents should also be aware of two state laws that shape the wider environment even though they impose few obligations on a site like this one: the Personal Information Protection Act, which governs breach notification for entities holding personal information, and the Biometric Information Privacy Act, which regulates biometric identifiers. BIPA is relevant to readers in a specific way — several crypto kiosk and exchange operators use facial recognition as part of identity verification, and Illinois has the strictest biometric consent regime in the country. That is a question for those operators, not for us: we collect no biometric data of any kind.

Security and children

Security. This site is served over HTTPS. Because we hold no accounts, no payment details and no financial data, the attack surface is minimal. We nonetheless keep the site's software current and monitor for unauthorised change.

Children. This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly process information from anyone under 13. Buying digital assets on any licensed US venue requires being at least 18 with verified identity.

Third-party hosting. The site is delivered by a hosting provider that processes server logs on our behalf as described above.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy to reflect changes in how the site operates or in applicable law. Material changes will be reflected in the review date shown on this page.
